Anthony Martial scored a late goal to give Manchester United a lone goal victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The goal came in the 81st minute of the keenly contested match. Tottenham had just been ruled offside when David de Gea sent down a whistling goal kick.
Lukaku headed it into the path of Anthony Martial, who beats two Spurs defenders and slots home.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s breakaway effort secured an identical result in this fixture last season after Spurs had dominated possession and it was a similar story here as Mauricio Pochettino’s men struggled without injured talisman Harry Kane.
The England man was absent with a hamstring injury, Pochettino choosing Son Heung-min over Fernando Llorente in attack, but Pep Guardiola’s branding of Spurs as “the Harry Kane team” may be revisited after they failed to break down United’s stiff defence.
The goalscorer came in the 70th minute and helped Jose Mourinho’s side edge close to city rivals, Manchester City, who would be visiting West Bromwich Albion.
We would return to give you the highlights of the other matches.
